Why would anyone desire to have a side hustle? This was the first question that came to my mind before writing this article.
Although I want to start this post by answering the question “why” but honestly everyone has different reasons. So I cannot sell you into reasons why anyone should have a part – time hustle.
Your reasons are best known to you, but it is good thing to be you own boss and make your own money
It could be because you want to get rid of your financial challenges or become independent, support yourself and your family or you probably just want a monthly allowance or you want to monetize your skill.
It could be anything. Like I said earlier, your reasons are best known to you.
1. Sports viewing centers
Most Nigerians love football and most football matches take place during the weekends. Matches that happen during weekdays, happen in the evenings so this is a perfect business for people in employment to make money.
Also, there are other lucrative business you can blend with this, like sports betting which is a natural fit for sports lovers and a side-bar where people can have their drinks while they enjoy watching their football. Since football is generally a men’s game, you can also feature a barbing salon by the side and put someone there to be giving you money regularly. In any case, it’s a winning affair for you and to make cool cash.
2. House cleaning/janitorial services
- Post construction cleaning
- Day-to-day office/home cleaning
- Specialized roof cleaning
- Pool cleaning
- Carpet/rug/tile cleaning
- Drainage cleaning.
You will need to brand and market your business effectively. Social media has become an indispensable tool when it comes to marketing and branding. So you can tell people what you do, take phone calls, negotiate jobs and get people to execute them or do them yourself over the weekends.
3. Catering Services
These could be an indoor catering or outdoor catering or both – depending on your decision.
You can start by informing people around you that you are into the business or perhaps, approach catering business to be a casual worker for them whenever you have time or during weekends.
You may not necessarily be cooking. It could be shopping for catering items, table setting or serving during events.
If you probably know how to cook very well, you can actually turn it into a money-making business.
4. Computer/Phone Repairing
Presently all over the world, everyone has a phone they use and virtually almost every student has a PC. Not just students alone but Lecturers, Non-academic staffs, neighbors and the list goes on.
These gadgets also fall sick and have accidents like human and they need a doctor o safe their lives – if the owner cares you will be surprise how they will run to your abode wanting to fix their gadgets. Its like a game, More Patients more money.
5. Make-up Artist
Trust me, beauty in this life especially in Nigeria is no longer in the eyes of the beholder.
It is now in the hands of Make-up artist.
Seriously, I really don’t know how they do these things but the fact is, they can turn a demon into a angel.
And if a man isn’t careful enough he’ll be chasing what really isn’t.
Anyways they make good money covering peoples flaws.
6. Buying And Selling (Mini Importations)
Talking of Shoes, Phones, Laptops, Jewellery, Sneakers, Bags, Books, the list goes on.
Buy goods at ridiculous low price from china and resell at twice or thrice the amount.
7. Snail farming
Snail farming is one of the agricultural businesses that need little supervision. Having a snail farm would not stand in the way of your job. In fact most snail farmers are full-time workers. The reasons snail farming is a perfect business for workers are:
- You don’t have to worry about being around, snails thrive perfectly without constant supervision. Here is a fun fact about snails, they eat at night. So you can go ahead with your day job and feed your snails when you return at night.
- Starting a snail farm is not capital-intensive.
- You can rear snails in your backyard; you don’t need a lot of space.
- The market for snails is large. You can sell to local market, restaurants and even hotels.
8. Hand crafting
Some people have a passion for using their hands to create something. If you have these skill or passion for knitting, bead making, jewelry making, carving, painting, etc.
You could make lots of profit out of this at your leisure time.
This is one of the business ideas you can engage in both online and offline. If you have the right skills and a passion for taking pictures then you could offer photography services at wedding parties and other events. Most of these events usually fall on weekends so you don’t have to worry about any effects on your day job.

You enjoy blogging only if it allows you have time to face other areas of your life.
Most people burn out soon after they start because when they start blogging it consumes them, making it difficult to do anything else.
If you have a job and you also have a special interest you want to blog about, there’s nothing stopping you.
In fact, you are the perfect candidate to run a profitable blog.
However, it goes without saying that blogging is not a get rich quick scheme – It requires determination and consistency.
11. Rental Business
This kind of business involves leasing out plastic tables and chairs for people organizing parties/ceremonies. It is one of most on-demand businesses for anyone wishing to generate passive income and it is suitable for everyone (male & female) employed or not.
Ceremonies like traditional weddings, white weddings, birthday parties, child dedication and many others are organised weekly, and the organizers always rent chairs and tables for the event, thus there is and will always be a high demand for the table and chair rentals.
